We were thrilled to invite a curated cohort of festival programmers and performing artists from both Germany and the UK to join us in Brighton back in May 2022.

During this program, we focused on the themes of embedding socially engaged practices into place-based festivals, working internationally while staying rooted in local communities, and exploring the civic role of the arts. Our aim was to foster dialogue and reciprocity between artists and programmers, addressing the challenges of developing more sustainable and meaningful ways of working internationally.

This exchange program was organised in partnership with the Goethe-Institut and Brighton Festival, with aims to build connections and create the conditions for long-term exchange between artists and the communities they serve. We explored ideas to better connect artists to their surroundings and promote a more sustainable approach to international collaboration.

The participants had the opportunity to connect with the caravan assembly and other related programs, including Brighton Festival's community program Our Place. We believe that by coming together, sharing experiences, and exploring innovative ideas, we can create a vibrant and inclusive theatre community that values both artistic expression and our planet's well-being.
