News Story

Eoghan Carrick is an artist based in Dublin, Ireland. He works primarily in theatre and opera on new and established texts, and is an associate with Once Off Productions. Eoghan took part in Pitch Up at Cork Midsummer in 2024. Eoghan came to Pich Up with two productions: Konstantin (after The Seagull) and SISTER. Eoghan told us about his experience at the festival.

caravan: What was your participation at Pitch Up, Cork Midsummer 2024?

Eoghan: We pitched two projects: Konstantin, a work that had already undergone a few phases of development and had a planned production taking place in October 2025, and SISTER, a project which was in an earlier phase of development.

c: What changed for you by taking part in the project?

E: At Pitch Up, we began a dialogue with Matt Burman who was there representing Cambridge Junction. Our work is most often conceived around a technological conceit, and this lined up well with Cambridge Junction and Collusion's Art Tech Play residency, which Matt encouraged us to apply for. We travelled to Cambridge to take part in these practice days, which involve artists collaborating with creative technologists to explore the potential applications of emerging technologies in art and performance. Having true access to these technologies in a capacity which would have been challenging to impossible in Ireland, was transformative. During the practice days we also met UK performance collective Figs in Wigs, and this connection has continued beyond Art Tech Play, with a potential collaboration in the works for 2026.

c: Why is this change important?

E: Cross pollination of disciplines and artists internationally is essential to the growth and wellness of theatre in Ireland, and taking part in Pitch Up led directly to an opportunity for both.

About Pitch Up

A house south east theatre network initiative, Pitch Up is an in-person event which provides a platform for venues and artists to pitch ideas, providing space for new partnerships to emerge. By having both venues and theatre-makers pitch what they have to offer and what they're looking for, we aim to foster a more collaborative and open approach than traditional pitching events.

This May, house is taking Pitch Up to Brighton Fringe. Artist applications have now closed, but you can still come along and be part of the audience.
